The Municipality of Piraeus was recognized as the best municipality in Greece, standing out nationwide for the projects and initiatives it implemented during the four-year period 2019–2023.  The award “Municipality of Greece” was received by the Mayor of Piraeus, Giannis Moralis, while awards on behalf of the Municipality were also received by Deputy Mayors Andriana Zarakeli, Antonia Karakatsani, Dimitris Karydis, Panagiotis Reppas, and the Director of Culture, Litsa Bafouni. They are organized under the auspices of KEDE. For the eighth consecutive year, the institution highlighted the top practices and solutions of Greek municipalities, showcasing examples of the use of innovative technologies and strategies that contribute to sustainability and local development. The Municipality of Piraeus was distinguished with awards in the following categories: A. The award on behalf of the Municipality of Piraeus was received by the Deputy Mayor for Cleanliness and Recycling, Panagiotis Reppas.  The “Greek Green Awards 2024” honored organizations, local government bodies, and businesses that placed scientific knowledge and technological innovation at the service of the environment. It is noted that more than 2,800 registered households in Piraeus participate in the “Kantharos” programme.

Through the available mobile and web applications, visitors can easily and quickly access all the information they need during their stay, from points of interest and suggested routes to updates on services and local businesses.  With the implementation of the Integrated Destination Management System, the Municipality of Piraeus takes a decisive step towards shaping a modern, smart, and sustainable tourism model. The award was received by the Deputy Mayor for Finance, Athina Glyka – Charvalaou.  Through the new OTS products, Open1, the Municipality of Piraeus simplified and fully digitized its services for citizens, businesses, and visitors, enhancing efficiency and operational continuity. The new platform enables the electronic processing of transactions with services such as the Municipal Police, Civil Registry, Municipal Registry, and Revenue Department, without the need for physical presence.  The Mayor of Piraeus, Giannis Moralis, emphasized that the new digital platform reduces inconvenience for citizens and businesses, allowing fast and immediate service, while it will soon also offer electronic payment of obligations to the Municipality.  The Deputy Mayor, Athina Glyka – Charvalaou, stated that, thanks to the project “Technological micro-infrastructures and smart city applications”, funded by the European Regional Development Fund, the new information system operates entirely through the cloud, offering faster, safer, and more efficient services. The CURiM platform contributes to strengthening urban safety by enabling the collection and assessment of threats at both physical and digital levels. Local authorities can utilize the information it generates, facilitating decision-making for the prevention of criminal activities and the protection of citizens.  </li> </ul> The award was received on behalf of the Municipality of Piraeus by the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Development, Mr. Dimitris Karydis, on behalf of SingularLogic by Mr. Dimitris Parisis, and on behalf of SPACE HELLAS by Mr. Sokratis Kostikoglou.  <ul role="list"> <li aria-setsize="-1" data-aria-level="1" data-aria-posinset="2" data-font="Symbol" data-leveltext="" data-list-defn-props="{"335552541":1,"335559685":1440,"335559991":360,"469769226":"Symbol","469769242":[8226],"469777803":"left","469777804":"","469777815":"hybridMultilevel"}" data-listid="36" role="listitem"> Bronze Award for the digital platform eLocalGoverments.gr. The eLocalGoverments.gr platform, fully integrated with the Genesis Information System, constitutes a unified digital environment for communication and transactions between local authorities and citizens.
