The vision of the Municipality of Piraeus is to transform the city into a human-centered and environmentally sustainable hub, while at the same time capitalizing on its strategic position as a major port and business center, with a focus on quality of life, innovation, and citizen participation.
The transformation of Piraeus into a modern “Smart City” is based on the utilization of advanced digital technologies and the development of infrastructure that substantially improves the daily lives of citizens. It invests in the digital modernization of services, enhances the digital skills of citizens and its personnel, simplifies procedures, and provides secure electronic services. Furthermore, Piraeus is emerging as a hub of innovation, operating as a living lab for the implementation of new technologies, supporting startups and developing Internet of Things platforms that contribute to improving the city’s safety and functionality. All of the above are implemented through a modern, participatory, and transparent governance model, which ensures continuous evaluation, rapid adaptation to new needs, and clear planning and implementation of actions. With participatory planning as a core principle, the Municipality seeks the continuous and active involvement of residents and local stakeholders, ensuring that the transition to a Sustainable City takes place with transparency, collaboration, and inclusiveness.
The Strategic Plan of the Municipality serves its central vision through the promotion of the following priorities:
